Aircraft Carrier on Final Leg Back to Home Port

The aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln steamed quietly out of San Diego Bay on Saturday on the final leg of its journey home with 3,000 sailors eager to greet parents, family and friends they left nearly a year ago.
The vessel spent nearly 10 months in the Persian Gulf during the war with Iraq before docking Friday at North Island Naval Air Station.
About 1,500 sailors left the ship there and were to be bused or flown to their bases.
Most of the rest got a brief liberty.
They were back by 2 a.m. to prepare the vessel for its journey to its homeport of Everett, Wash., where it was expected to arrive Tuesday.
