City Expands Pickup of Hazardous Wastes

In an effort to improve water quality, the Laguna Beach City Council has approved expanding a program to collect household hazardous wastes from every two years to any time on demand.
Residents will be able to arrange for the pickup of materials such as car batteries, paint, used motor oil and pesticides by calling the Public Works Department, said Jamie Pendleton, a department senior analyst.
Many cites collect household waste, but usually at designated places. Laguna Beach has found that collection at residences was no more costly.
