19 Trailer Deaths Tied to Smuggling Conspiracy

Investigators believe that a smuggling operation in which 19 illegal immigrants died after being packed into a sweltering trailer with dozens of others is part of a larger organization, a federal prosecutor said.
A truck driver from Schenectady, N.Y., has been arrested.
Authorities believe the “transportation cell” at the heart of the case is part of a conspiracy to smuggle people across the border with promises of jobs, said U.S. Atty. Michael Shelby of Houston.
