Mal Florence told me about an incident a few years ago:
When Stan Morrison left as USC basketball coach, Mal wrote that he had been fired. Mike McGee, then the USC athletic director, had told the media that Morrison had left of his own volition.
An angry McGee confronted Mal, and asked, “Who is the source of your information?” Mal replied, “Stan Morrison.”
