Man Killed Trying to Prevent Car Theft

A Huntington Beach man was killed and a friend was injured while trying to stop a car thief, police said.
Joel Hyde, 22, was inside a home in the 200 block of Grand Avenue about 12:15 a.m. Sunday when he saw a man trying to steal his car from an alley, police said.
He and a friend were struck by the car while trying to stop it, police said. The friend, who was not identified, was hospitalized and her condition was unknown. The suspected thief, Jesus Soto, 26, of Long Beach, was arrested later, police said.
