Acting Director of State Lottery Steps Down

Chon Gutierrez, acting director of the California Lottery, announced his immediate retirement Thursday.
Gutierrez was appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in December 2004 to lead the lottery. No replacement has been named.
The lottery had its highest sales ever this year -- more than $3.3 billion -- but critics recently sued the agency, saying it did not have legal authority to join the multi-state lottery game Mega Millions.
