The governor of Sudan’s North Darfur state said reports that a government plane had bombed villagers last week were fabricated by foreigners, the nation’s news agency reported.
The U.N., citing African Union observers at the scene, said Friday that Sudan’s air force had bombed civilians in Shangil Tobaya village, killing or wounding nearly 100 people.
But Gov. Osman Mohammed Yusuf Kibir told the Sudan News Agency: “We personally went there.... The people in the area were surprised as to the lies diffused by the organizations and the Western media.”
