Re “600 Choice Words for the Chatterers,” Commentary, May 24: The best solution for the “unwarranted self-regard” of relentless movie-talkers such as these is to pop the $8 for an extra-large soda and then stumble badly right behind them. Then apologize profusely.

I am surprised that Peter Mehlman didn’t say anything to the chatterers who were ruining his movie experience. Years ago, I was seated next to two women who couldn’t stop talking. After tolerating their bad behavior for a while, I finally leaned over and stated that if they wanted to have a conversation, they could do so in the lobby. They looked absolutely astonished at me and at each other, as if I were the rude one. However, they did finally shut up. No sense fuming -- just say something!

Mehlman’s commentary was right on target about the people who talk constantly during movies. Worse, when my wife and I saw “Crash,” one couple actually brought their 6- and 10-year-old sons with them! Whatever happened to baby-sitters?
By the way, I tell people to shut up during movies by flashing a “please be quiet” message with my back-lit Palm Pilot screen.
