Regarding “Roiling on the River” [May 24]: As a river guide on the Kern River for more than 15 years, every guide and outfitter I know would consider any loss, injury or the death of a guest on their river trip unacceptable.
Your quote of 216 deaths on the Kern River may lead readers to believe that many died on rafting trips. To my knowledge the deaths are primarily swimmers swept away by the current of the Lower Kern River.
