Carpe diem for punk rock
- Share via
Far removed from the cozy confines where it used to ply its punk-rock trade, Green Day is doing what was once unimaginable for a band from its world: headlining stadiums. Of course, everything has been uncharted territory for the Bay Area band lately, from the resounding critical response to last year’s ambitious and pointed “American Idiot” to the best-rock-album Grammy it received. Now the stadium shows create a challenge both for the band -- to retain its values in this inimical setting -- and for its audience -- to give it a chance to do so, but not let it get away with anything.
Green Day, Home Depot Center, 1000 E. Victoria St., Carson. Saturday, 7 p.m. $25.50 to $47.50. (310) 630-2020.
* Also Sunday, 6 p.m.
