Militant Sentenced to Death in Embassy Attack

An Indonesian Islamic militant was sentenced to death for his role in last year’s suicide bombing that killed 10 people at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. Iwan Darmawan, 30, said he would appeal the verdict.
Presiding Judge Roki Panjaitan said Darmawan surveyed the mission three times before the truck bombing, bought the explosives and helped persuade the bomber to carry out the attack, which killed mostly Indonesian passersby and guards.
