The driver of an SUV was killed and his passenger wounded Tuesday after they were chased by gunmen in cars who kept shooting even after the SUV crashed, authorities said.
The shooting took place in the 10000 block of Grande Vista Avenue in Boyle Heights about 2:30 p.m., police said. The gunmen drove up to the victims in two cars, firing several rounds as the SUV led them in a chase, then flipped over into the yard of a private home.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene from bullet wounds. The passenger was shot as he tried to flee the crash on foot, and was later taken to a hospital, police said. His condition was unknown.
