49ers get a big victory at Davis

Mark Dawson and Aaron Nixon each had 16 points Thursday night to lead Long Beach State to a 89-75 victory over UC Davis at Davis.
Kejuan Johnson and Kevin Houston added 14 apiece for the 49ers (8-4).
Thomas Juillerat had 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in 32 minutes for the Aggies (1-6), who suffered their fourth loss in a row. Their only victory was against Jackson State on Dec. 2.
Tied 19-19, the 49ers went on a 23-9 run to take a 42-29 halftime lead. Long Beach State scored 26 points off 14 Aggies turnovers in the first half. Long Beach State led by as many as 20 points after Johnson made a three-point shot to make the score 74-54.

Cal State Fullerton 99, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 91 -- Bobby Brown made five of the Titans’ 14 three-point baskets and Fullerton held on to win a Big West Conference opener at San Luis Obispo.
Brown finished with a game-high 28 points and eight assists and the Titans matched a team record for three-point baskets.
Fullerton, which has won five in a row, also made 14 three-point baskets against UC Irvine on Jan. 15, 2005. The Titans took 28 three-point shots Thursday and made 17 of 20 free throws. Fullerton (10-2) had six players in double figures. Scott Cutley had 16 points and eight rebounds. Justin Burns had 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Mustangs (5-6) were led by senior forward Derek Stockalper, who scored a career-high 22 points.

Pepperdine 90, Binghamton 83 -- Willie Galick scored a career high 20 points, Marvin Lee had 15 points and 12 rebounds and the Waves held off the Bearcats (6-5) in the first round of the Lobo Invitational at Albuquerque, N.M.
Pepperdine (4-10) will play New Mexico (10-3) in the championship game tonight. New Mexico defeated Alcorn State, 91-59.
Binghamton was led by Mike Gordon with 22 points and Troy Hailey with 19. Pepperdine trailed, 57-56, with 12:13 left after Binghamton’s Duane James scored. But the Bearcats went nearly eight minutes without a field goal and Pepperdine went on a 19-5 run.

UC Irvine 81, Harvard 48 -- Adam Templeton scored 18 points with six three-point baskets and the Anteaters held the Crimson to a season-low 30% shooting in a nonconference game at Irvine.
Irvine (5-8) made 52.5% of its shots from the field, with Nic Campbell scoring 15 points. Harvard (7-7) was no match inside for Irvine. The Anteaters won the rebounding battle, 44-33.

UC Santa Barbara 73, UC Riverside 65 -- Alex Harris scored a career-high 32 points at Santa Barbara and the Gauchos rallied and won a Big West Conference opener.
The teams were tied, 62-62, before the Gauchos (9-3) pulled away by shutting down the inside game of the Highlanders (3-9).

California Baptist 122, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) 119 -- The teams combined to set a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics record for combined points in a women’s game in the first round of the GSAC Challenge at Azusa.
