Homeless Shelter Beds to Stay Open

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to provide $820,000 in funding to keep 820 beds open at seasonal homeless shelters between March 15, when they were scheduled to close, and June 30, the end of the fiscal year.
About 60 homeless people attended the meeting in council chambers, with some pointing out that the city shelter beds are needed because the rainy, cold weather could extend well into spring.
The beds will be funded again July 1, at the start of the next budget year.
