Former Governor Diagnosed With Cancer

Former Gov. Ann Richards says she has cancer of the esophagus and will undergo treatment at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Richards, 72, got the diagnosis Tuesday, said spokesman Bill Maddox. Richards, a Democrat, was governor from 1991 to 1995, losing a reelection bid to George W. Bush. She has been working as an advisor at a public relations and lobbying firm.
