Los Angeles County coroner’s officials Wednesday identified the two pilots killed in a crash of a charter jet north of Van Nuys Airport.
Frank Kratzer, 72, of Northridge and Fernando Fernandez, 49, of Los Angeles died Friday after the twin-engine Cessna Citation they were flying went down in a field shortly after takeoff.
Kratzer, a former pilot for Western and Delta Air Lines, founded Sun Quest Executive Air Charter in 1992 and operated a flight school at Whiteman Airport in Pacoima. Fernandez was a self-employed Hollywood studios electrician before becoming a pilot. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
