Bail again denied for supermarkets owner

U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson denied a motion by indicted grocery magnate George Torres to be released on bail so he can prepare his federal racketeering case.
Prosecutors argued that Torres, who is accused of conspiring to commit three murders, was a danger to the community and a flight risk.
Wilson said he would revisit the bail issue once the U.S. attorney lays out the legal basis for the racketeering charge and Torres’ attorneys respond with a detailed motion to dismiss it. But Wilson said it would be “an uphill fight” for the owner of Numero Uno supermarkets. A federal magistrate judge denied Torres’ earlier request for bail.
