Union’s claims against orchestra

Responding to a musicians union’s claim of unfair labor practices, Pasadena Symphony executive director Tom O’Connor said Monday that the filing was “part of a normal process.” The union grievance is in response to a proposed merger between the symphony and the Pasadena Pops Orchestra.
“We’re on new ground here,” O’Connor said. “It’s not often that one orchestra combines with another, but we had good counsel, and everything that has been said by the union has been expected.”
O’Connor said he had plans Monday to speak to Local 47 President Hal Espinosa to schedule meetings between the orchestra’s management and the union. “When we have these meetings, we will resolve these issues amicably,” O’Connor said.
