Prosecutors have charged a man with raping an 11-year-old girl in an alley near her school, as well as multiple counts of annoying or molesting other girls.
Robert Murphy Jr., 38, of Long Beach allegedly confronted the girl Feb. 28, threatened her with a knife and forced her into an alley about a block from Jefferson Middle School.
Murphy, who was arrested June 21, was charged this week with felony kidnapping, rape and sodomy, as well as multiple misdemeanor counts of annoying or molesting a child involving four girls ages 11 to 15, Sgt. Dina Zapalski said.
Murphy remained in jail with bail set at $1 million.
