TIM RUTTEN’S column [“World of The Times,” March 3] should have appeared on the front page of The Times instead of the Calendar section. How dare this idiot from Chicago, Charles K. Bobrinskoy, presume to tell us, the people of Los Angeles, that we would rather be reading about “how to dress” than what is happening in the world. The best thing that could happen to the Los Angeles Times is local ownership.

RUTTEN’S clarification of the “Frontline” report was welcome, but the threat to this newspaper remains. I would hate to see The Times diminished more than has been attempted. Rather, I hope it will be considered a community resource to be nurtured. It still has a worthy role to fulfill, no matter what the bean counters say.
