Tunnel project to disrupt trains

Railroad service will be interrupted at Mariposa Point over the weekend as crews pull up tracks to install a pedestrian tunnel to the beach, city officials said.
Trains will be blocked from 10 p.m. today to about 4 a.m. Monday, said City Engineer Bill Cameron. There will be additional railroad maintenance at spots in north San Diego County and south Orange County, Cameron said, and train passengers will be provided bus service around the work sites.
The tunnel construction is part of the city’s $14-million, 2.3-mile beach trail project. Linda Lane will be blocked by construction vehicles, so beachgoers are urged to find alternate beach access.
