After trailing the Wildcats (4-1) by 20 in the second half, Riverside came within 51-40 with 4:23 left on a fastbreak layup by Aaron Scott. Northwestern scored the next eight points to end any comeback bid. Christian Soto and Brandon Dowdy scored 10 points each for the Highlanders.

at Drexel 55, Cal State Northridge 47: The Matadors opened a 36-29 lead with 15:29 left, but the Dragons scored 12 of the next 15 points, eight of them by Gerald Colds, to take a 41-39 edge with 12:23 left. Scott Rodgers’ steal followed by a dunk gave the Dragons (2-1) the lead for good with 5:02 left. The Dragons went to the free-throw line 26 times and made 18 while the Matadors (1-5) were two for five. Matthew Wallace led Northridge with 12 points, and Deon Tresvant added 11.
