Thousands of Greeks followed a white coffin to Alexandros Grigoropoulos’ grave in Athens as the violence sparked when police shot the youth raged just two blocks away.
Relatives supported Grigoropoulos’ mother and sister as tearful teenagers scattered white and pink roses into the 15-year-old’s grave. About 5,000 mourners packed the Palio Faliro cemetery, and hundreds more spilled into the street.
Dozens of youths threw stones at riot police near the cemetery, and the officers responded with tear gas. Since the Saturday shooting, destructive riots have spread nationwide.
