Sun’s net income nearly doubles

Sun Microsystems Inc., the fourth-largest maker of server computers, reported that second-quarter profit almost doubled after the company cut jobs and combined businesses.
Net income rose to $260 million, or 31 cents a share, from $133 million, or 15 cents, a year earlier, Santa Clara, Calif.-based Sun said. Sales rose 1.4% to $3.62 billion, topping analysts’ estimates of $3.59 billion for the period ended Dec. 30.
