The U.S. government said it would ship an additional $20 million in food aid to Haiti.
The announcement came a month after protests over rising food prices sparked riots that left at least six dead. The U.S. Embassy said the shipment would include about 30,000 tons of wheat, rice, beans and vegetable oil.
Haitian President Rene Preval and others have said subsidized U.S. agricultural imports have weakened farming here and compounded Haiti’s food crisis.
