Homeless attack draws life term

A man was sentenced to life in prison for killing a Fort Lauderdale homeless man with a baseball bat in 2006 and harming two others.
Thomas Daugherty, 19, and Brian Hooks, 21, were convicted last month of second-degree murder and two counts each of attempted second-degree murder for their roles in the death of Norris Gaynor, 45, and in the other two attacks. Hooks will be sentenced today.
A third defendant pleaded guilty in May to felony murder and aggravated assault and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
