Bravery and heartbreak

Re “Tough farmer losing his grip,” Column One, June 3
Your article really touched and disturbed me. I hope you will follow up on Mike Campbell’s fight to keep his farm in Zimbabwe.
We as Americans cannot fully imagine the horrors in other countries.
A story like this -- thugs who want his land beating the 75-year-old so badly he hasn’t been quite the same since -- puts in perspective one’s own life struggles.
My husband’s yearlong unemployment is really not so bad, compared with the Zimbabwean family’s struggle.

I have been following the story of the Campbells and their horse, Ginger, since the beginning; I am heartbroken to read the outcome.
They are such brave people. They have worked so hard for what they have -- and then to risk having it taken away at the whim of a dictator and given to a mob whose members don’t know the meaning of hard work.
I fear the end result is not going to be a happy one.
