An Orange County engineer has been arrested in connection with the unsolved slaying of a Torrance nurse who was found dead inside her apartment 30 years ago.
Douglas Gordon Bradford was charged in the Aug. 29, 1979, strangling and fatal stabbing of Lynne Knight in Torrance, said L.A. County Deputy Dist. Atty. John Lewin, who works in the major crimes division.
The 28-year-old nurse was stabbed more than 15 times and strangled with a homemade garrote that was found near her body in her Anza Avenue apartment. Bradford and Knight had dated and later broken up.
At the time, Bradford was a Cal State Long Beach engineering student.
Lewin said detectives from the Torrance Police Department’s cold case unit picked up the unsolved case and began reinvestigating it.
Bradford, of Costa Mesa, was being held in lieu of $1.02-million bail. If convicted, he faces 26 years to life in prison. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Torrance.
