Tips on how to avoid being attacked or bitten by dogs

Roughly 4.5 million Americans get bitten by dogs each year, and about 1 in 5 requires medical attention for bites. Who’s most at risk? Among children, those ages 5 to 9 years old, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Injuries range from less serious infections to the very serious but rare rabies, a virus transmitted from the animal’s saliva, as well as attacks so severe they disfigure the person and require plastic surgery.
