SAG-AFTRA board approves TV contract

Actors, performers and hosts who work on “The Young and the Restless,” “Saturday Night Live” “Dancing With the Stars” and other unscripted television shows are a step closer to a pay raise.
The national board of SAG-AFTRA on Monday night approved a recently negotiated contract covering non- prime-time dramas in first-run syndication, morning news shows, talk shows, soaps, reality, sports and variety programs, as well as promotional announcements.
SAG-AFTRA last month announced a tentative agreement on a new contract with the four major television broadcast networks.
The three-year contract includes an 8.7% overall wage increase to most program fees. The pact also includes higher rates for background rehearsals, overtime pay and streaming residuals.
The so-called Network Television Code generates more than $200 million a year in member earnings, according to SAG-AFTRA.
The agreement will take effect if it is approved by a majority of union members. SAG-AFTRA is Hollywood’s largest union with about 160,000 members.
