With Chris Rock as host and Prince as musical guest, “Saturday Night Live” this weekend earned its highest ratings since February, according to early Nielsen numbers.
The NBC show averaged a household rating of 4.9/12 in Nielsen’s 54 metered markets and a rating of 2.4 in the key 18-to-49-year-old demographic in the 25 markets with so-called local people meters.
It was the highest-rated episode of the season and ranked as the No. 1 telecast of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in both metered-market households and among 18-to-49-year-olds as measured by local people meters.
The Feb. 1 episode with host Melissa McCarthy and musical guest Imagine Dragons earned a rating of 5.4/13.
Season 40 of SNL kicked off Sept. 27. To celebrate the show’s 40th anniversary, NBC will air a three-hour special on Feb. 15.
