Oscars 2013: What nominated movie will you now go see? [Poll]

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences moved up its nominations date to Thursday in part to give both Academy members and moviegoers at large more time to see the nominated films before the big Oscar night Feb. 24.

With nine movies on the best picture list, there are a lot of movies to be viewed. Many of them have already generated box-office receipts upwards of $100 million, making this year’s crop of films one of the most populist around. (Last year’s most widely-seen film was “The Help,” with $170 million.)

Movies including “Lincoln” with $145 million, “Django Unchained” at $110 million, “Argo” at $110.2 million and “Les Miserables” with $106.4 million have all done well at the box office. And Twentieth Century Fox’s “Life of Pi” is almost there, with $91 million.

Other films on the best picture list have a ways to go in their box-office run. The French-language movie “Amour” has generated only $340,000 since it opened in three theaters in mid-December, and “Zero Dark Thirty” is finally expanding this weekend, along with “Silver Linings Playbook.”

Only “Beasts of the Southern Wild” is completely out of theaters and must be seen on DVD.
