‘Rebel noble’ Duchess of Alba dies

Spain’s Duchess of Alba, known as the “rebel noble,” has died at age 88. The wealthiest woman in Spain, she was also a bohemian, famous for her eccentric style and for flouting convention in numerous ways. (Her second husband was a defrocked priest; her third, a decades-younger civil servant.) She hosted Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn on visits to Spain, and in 1959 turned her palace in Madrid over to Yves Saint Laurent for a Dior runway show.
