DVD sales of Mary Tyler Moore’s television and movie work jumped after the beloved actress’ death at 80 on Wednesday.
Moore became a feminist icon in the 1970s for her portrayal of Mary Richards on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” America’s breakout, never-married career woman who paved the way for funny, independent women on television, including the lead characters on “Murphy Brown,” “Ally McBeal” and “30 Rock.”
Seasons 1, 2 and 3 of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” topped Amazon’s Movers and Shakers list, with DVD sales increasing 46,642%, 34,590% and 34,993%, respectively. Sales of the complete series jumped 24,881%.
Sales of Moore’s other work also saw upticks. “Ordinary People,” for which she was nominated for an Oscar in 1981, rose 14,524%, and the complete, remastered series of “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” which garnered Moore her first Emmy, increased 7,166%.
“After All,” her autobiography, moved into first place on the Movers and Shakers book list with a 174,134% surge.
