CalPERS’ return rate: An article in the March 14 Business section about a proposal by the California Public Employees’ Retirement System to lower the assumed annual rate of return on its investments said that cities, counties and special service districts that participate in the CalPERS program could face higher retirement costs starting July 1, 2014. In fact, they would get higher bills July 1, 2013.
Red meat: An article in the March 13 LATExtra section about a study linking red meat consumption to an increased risk of premature death said that preservatives like nitrates probably contributed to the danger. It should have included nitrites as well.
Crystal Cathedral: An article in the March 11 California section about Robert H. Schuller’s departure from the board of the Crystal Cathedral said that he founded the church 42 years ago. The television ministry began 42 years ago, but Schuller founded the church 57 years ago, in 1955.
