A police pursuit through southeast and central Los Angeles ended violently Friday night when officers shot the suspect after the Corvette he was driving crashed into another car, authorities said.
The condition of the suspect was not immediately known, an LAPD spokeswoman said.
In a scene captured by television cameras, the man appeared to have been shot after he scrambled from the smashed Corvette at Olympic Boulevard and Los Angeles Street downtown. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance, said LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera.
The condition of the driver of the other car also was not immediately available.
The pursuit began about 9:30 p.m. when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the man, who was believed to be about 40, because he was driving recklessly, officials said.
The chase wound through South Gate, Huntington Park and South Los Angeles before the 10:30 p.m. collision and shooting.
Herrera said she had no further information.
