Spread of San Diego County fire that threatened homes is halted

Firefighters have halted the spread of a wildfire in north San Diego County after it threatened homes in the rural, unincorporated area of De Luz, officials said.
The 10-acre blaze that started about 3 p.m. at 39431 De Luz Road spread to 20 acres--in just half an hour. Bone-dry conditions and hilly terrain allowed it to burn quickly, according to Capt. Kendal Bortisser of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Cal Fire, working with the California Highway Patrol, had to shut down the portion of De Luz/De Luz Murrieta Road near a creek and the Santa Margarita Truck Trail.
The fire was holding at 40 acres, Bortisser said. The threat to homes had subsided, he said.
