Five people were killed and another person injured when their speeding vehicle crashed and burst into flames in Burbank early Saturday, authorities said.
The vehicle crashed as it exited the 5 Freeway at Scott Road about 4:20 a.m., authorities said. The vehicle apparently crashed into a concrete pillar and became engulfed in flames.
One of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle, police said. That person was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.
Five people were confirmed dead at the scene, said Burbank Fire Capt. Peter Hendrickson. He could not provide any further details of the victims.
The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
“It’s a horrific scene,” Sgt. Darin Ryburn told a KABC-TV (Channel 7) news reporter. “Speed was involved. It’s a single-vehicle accident. No other vehicles were involved.”
