Letters: Keep dangerous people in jail

Re “Suspect in Hollywood stabbing has long record,” June 26
That an innocent woman was stabbed on Hollywood Boulevard is devastating. But the revelation that her accused killer has been arrested for previous physical assaults and released numerous times because of overcrowded jails compounds the tragedy.
Our police alone cannot protect us from people who should not be on the streets. It is up to citizens and their elected and appointed officials to take immediate action to provide adequate jail space for those who need to be incarcerated.
I am not a big fan of Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona’s Maricopa County, but if temporarily housing inmates in tent cities will make our streets safer, go for it. If anyone has a better solution, speak up.
