Nancy Pelosi keeps her seat, if not her gavel

Reporting from Washington — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was easily reelected to her San Francisco-based congressional seat. Whether she’ll serve her 13th term is unclear, however, as Democrats prepare for the new reality as the minority party in the House.
Pelosi was the most prominent player in House races across the country, featured in hundreds of Republican television ads.
Several embattled Democrats had vowed not to support Pelosi as their party’s leader in a new term.
Pelosi has steadfastly refused to discuss her future plans, maintaining that Democrats would remain in the majority for the 112th Congress.
When Republicans lost their majority in the 2006 elections, former Speaker Dennis Hastert initially remained in the House, but eventually resigned.
