Re “Pop balladeer of ‘Moon River,’” Obituary, Sept. 27
Upon hearing of the death of singer Andy Williams, I reminisced about my childhood, when “Moon River” was the song.
One of my fondest childhood memories is connected to that song. At the age of 9, I stood before the mirror in my bathroom practicing “my” song, “Moon River.” I needed to perfect my version since I was auditioning for “The Original Amateur Hour,” early television’s predecessor to shows like “America’s Got Talent.”
I took my turn at the audition. All my hopes and dreams for a singing career depended on my rendition of that beautiful song.
You probably guessed, but I didn’t make it onto the show. Still, in trying out, I created one of my fondest, most treasured memories.
