Roger Federer has routine win in second round of U.S. Open

NEW YORK -- Roger Federer had only 16 unforced errors to 40 from his opponent, Carlos Berlocq of Argentina, and recorded a safe and easy 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 second-round win Thursday at the U.S. Open in 1 hour, 35 minutes of some of the best of Federer.
With many in the crowd on Federer’s side, wearing T-shirts that said “RogerThat,” the five-time U.S. Open champion was pleased with the ease of his win.
“I’m very happy,” Federer said. “Carlos can play really well. I knew I had my work cut out. I had some opportunities on with my return and I was able to try a few things. I’m happy the way things worked out.”
Federer, seeded seventh, is halfway to a possible quarterfinal matchup against second-seeded Rafael Nadal. While the two have met 31 times, they have never played here. Nadal plays Thursday’s night match against Rogerio Dutra Silva in the second round. Dutra Silva has only won a single match this season.
“Right now I don’t care about that. I just need to keep on winning.”
