Suspended Viking Jerome Simpson cited for marijuana possession

Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson is serving a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
But the wide receiver could be in for even more discipline after it was revealed Thursday he is facing several misdemeanor charges from a separate incident in Minnesota including possession of marijuana, driving with an open bottle and violating his limited license restrictions.
Simpson was cited by Bloomington, Minn., police just after midnight July 7, according to the Associated Press. His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 3 in Hennepin County court.
Simpson’s current suspension stems from an arrest last year for drunk driving. He pleaded guilty to lesser charges of reckless driving in January.
Simpson was suspended for three games in 2012 after he pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge after police tracked a package with more than two pounds of marijuana to his northern Kentucky home in 2011.
Simpson had 48 catches for a 726 yards, a career best, and one touchdown last season for the Vikings.
