Las Vegas: Mariah Carey to join headliners at Caesars Colosseum

Mariah Carey will join the list of headliners at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the singer announced on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in a recorded appearance scheduled to air Thursday.

“I’m going to do my first-ever residency in Vegas at Caesars,” Carey told DeGeneres, according to a video posted on the show’s website.

There was no word on when or whether Celine Dion will return to Caesars’ Colosseum theater, whose stage was purpose-built for her. Dion surprised fans in August when she announced she was canceling her Caesars shows through at least March 2015, citing her health and that of her husband, Rene Angelil, who is fighting cancer.

Carey said her production at the Colosseum would include all 18 of her chart-topping singles.

“I have so many ideas for the show that I’m currently working on and am excited to perform all of my No. 1 singles together for the first time and others that are very close to my heart,” she told DeGeneres.

“My songs are the soundtrack of my life, and I can’t wait to share them with my fans on stage.”

Among her hits are “Hero,” “Touch My Body” and “We Belong Together.”

Tickets are already on sale for 18 performances in May and July. They cost $55 to $250 and are available online or by calling (866) 320-9763.

Carey, known for her five-octave range and prolific songwriting, has won numerous Grammys and is among the world’s top-selling female recording artists.

She has sold 200 million records, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Celine Dion and the late Whitney Houston also have reached that mark. Madonna, who has sold 305 million records, is the top female recording artist.
